A Fine Soft Day

We have arrived after a long, two day drive through France to reach England and, more especially, Belaugh. I am delighted to be back here and spent a happy day yesterday, camera in hand, to photograph some of our visitors and our home – which now grace the banner heading of my blog. I’ve learnt to remain extremely still and wait – which is how I caught the photo of a very curious baby bunny who just couldn’t resist taking a peek at us.
Before leaving Peymeinade, we packed my computer, a couple of my monitors and one of my desks so that I could start setting up part of my office and catch up on some unfinished work once I was here. But first a couple of days off to unwind and mooch around Wroxham, the capital of the Norfolk Broads, and where most of the shopping is dominated by Roys (with the neat title of The World’s Largest Village Store).
A friend of mine has asked where the word Belaugh comes from. After checking on-line, it seems that it may be ‘enclosure where the dead are cremated’ (crikey – I do hope not!) or ‘a glade or clearing’ (which I’m personally opting for…).
This Saturday morning started off, as the Irish lovingly call it, “a fine soft day” – one I had not experienced for over 10 years: it just doesn’t drizzle in the South of France. But now, as I sit here typing, the evening sun has come out and there’s a blackbird singing. It is quite delightful and charming. And very English. And home.

We head back to Belaugh tomorrow morning so today has been one of tidy up and packing. As we’re travelling in Thomas, my burgundy Range Rover, I’ve decided to bring some of my more fragile house plants with me as well as my computers. This step, more than my earlier furniture move and the one slated for October, means I’m definitely settling back in the UK.
We return the first week of September and, until then, leave the dogs, cats and Peymeinade house in the capable hands of our house-sitter.
This morning I had a super meeting with Kerry Bracken, a successful wedding planner here in the South of France. I’ll write more about Kerry and our meeting in my business blog later this week, once I’ve set up my office in Belaugh.
For the moment, though, I’d like to share some fun photos with you. Each has a special meaning to me: one is a photo of Muffin, when he was just four months old; one is of a yacht moored in Cannes and named Ineke which I couldn’t help but photograph as one of my best friends is called Ineke; another is of flat peaches that I discovered in Valbonne and had never seen in my life, ever. And one photo is of a super selection of wicker baskets at a market stall in Tourrettes-sur-Loup and which I found just so French.
What’s With All This French Stuff?

Okay – so you’ve noticed. My blog is called Beautiful Belaugh but all the images show France. Nope, I’m not losing my marbles, I just don’t have any photos of Belaugh – well, not with me at the moment as I’m creating and writing my blog in Peymeinade. You could say I’m betwixt for the moment – betwixt France and England. Case in point – yesterday evening.
After our two hour drive back from St Etienne de Tinée, we did a quick stopover at our local supermarket to buy some food for supper. My idea, as it was getting late, was to make Spaghetti Bolognese as that was quick and easy.
Standing in front of the shelves with my hand ready to pick up a tin of tomato purée it suddenly hit me (a thought – not the can!). Didn’t I already have a tin of purée? Worse still, for one terrible split second I couldn’t remember in which country I was. Crikey I thought, Hello Senior Moment – welcome to my world.
We are back in Belaugh next week, when with gladness of heart I shall take lots of photos of Beautiful Belaugh, but for the moment you’re stuck with me showing you my favourite images of my beloved France and taken with which of my cameras.
